- My basic premium went up even though my car is one year older and worth less money.
- What the hell is with that registration charge?
MPI is after all a bureaucracy, and there is after all a free-spending NDP government in power. I suppose it is possible that overhead costs have doubled in 5 years. But then again, I don't see any new office buildings going up on Main or Portage for MPI pencil pushers...
That leads me to conclude that this is nothing but tax increases through the back door. Something we're becoming accustomed to around here. MPI should be transparent about it: fold the registration charge into the basic premium so that they don't mislead people into thinking they're getting a break when in fact they're getting screwed.
When governments start to think they should run like a business, watch your wallet. You'll get nickel dimed to death and , whats worse, you have zero , nada , zilch recourse.
ReplyDeleteThe NDP have collected 40% more in revenue in 2007 from Manitobans than they did in 2003 , and now you know how they have been doing it. It's called a back door tax increase.

ReplyDeleteThe first two commentors hit it on the head. The Doer government uses its crowns as pawns and a piggybank. Develop policy that serves your own baised gov't interest (i.e. their laughable electric energy policy when it comes to hydro) or, even better, raid the coffers.
ReplyDeleteWe can debate the relative benefits of each party, but at least the PCs when in power prefer to let the crowns run as independant businesses (as possible) and stick to their own, not the government of the day's own personal mandate.
one final point on nofaultvictims.com.....micheal moore did a whole movie on victims of private health insurance (Sicko) so there are winners and losers on both ends of private/public spectrum

ReplyDeleteWasnt created to debate public/private insurance. This fight is with no fault insurance primarily. It doesnt matter if it is public or private no fault is a crock.

MPI will have no incentive to be "transparent" until they have compeition in the free market, and that won't happen as long as it has a government mandated monopoly on car insurance.
ReplyDeleteWell too many id ten t's will bitch then support the system.
ReplyDeletemake sure they know you are laughing at them.
To the first poster...
ReplyDeleteGovernment running like a business would be great because then they would provide good customer service, competitive prices and want to innovate; that doesn't happen with government monopolies, because they get paid no matter how good or bad of a job they do.
